NEETS BAY TERMINAL HARVEST AREA FISHERY ANNOUNCEMENT
Ketchikan. . . The Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced today in consultation with the Southern
Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association (SSRAA) the following information concerning the Neets Bay
Terminal Harvest Area (THA).
Beginning 12:01 a.m. Sunday, September 4, 2011, the Neets Bay THA will be re-open to troll gear
onlyin those waters of Neets Bay east of the longitude of the easternmost tip of Bug Island and west of a line
running from a point on the northern shore at 55° 47.62' N. latitude, 131° 34.49' W. longitude, to a point on
the southern shore at 55° 46.83' N. latitude, 131° 34.36' W. longitude, also known as the “Sims Line.”
The returning fall chum salmon return to Neets Bay looks to be stronger than forecasted. SSRAA is
progressing with cost recovery and beginning to collect broodstock. When SSRAA reaches the broodstock
goal of 50,000 fall chums a net gear rotational fishery is anticipated to begin in Neets Bay with expanded
lines.
