Neets Bay Hatchery - Summer Chum Egg-Take
NEETS BAY is a remote hatchery operated by SSRAA. Neets Bay is a remote site that you can only be reached by boat or plane from Ketchikan. It is our flagship facility, and supports one of the world's largest chum and coho returns. A number of people live at this remote site year around. The following picture show some of those folks in action during the summer chum egg-take. ![]() Bill Lyden, hatchery manager, watching
the trap as summer chum broodstock fill a raceway at Neets
Bay.

summer chum to the fish lift during egg-take.

and "the old guy on-site") operating the fish lift during
summer chum egg-take.

busy morning with the egg-take crew. The hatchery's
goal is to collect upwards of 120 million summer chum eggs and
30 million fall chum eggs.

trucks, four-wheelers, three-wheelers, skiffs, seiners,
tenders, bikes and even a golf cart. This is a picture

from the egg-take station to the hatchery by "Extra-tough."

eggs. Millions of chum eggs will flow collectively
through these buckets during the egg-take season.
